The setup wizard
What it is
The setup wizard is a guided onboarding flow in four steps that runs by itself the first time you activate AISA. It asks only what the plugin cannot guess and cannot work well without: how it should behave next to your SEO plugin, the API key of your AI provider, what your business does, and then it writes the rest of your Brand Context for you with one AI call. A progress bar and a step list show what is done and what is left; each completed step gets a check.
It is deliberately short. Everything it sets can be changed later from Settings, and any step can be skipped — the wizard is a head start, not a gate.
Where to find it
It launches on its own the first time you activate AISA on a site that has never been configured. The wizard runs on first activation; once completed it leaves the menu, and you rerun it from the link at the bottom of the Dashboard (“Run the setup wizard again”) or from the first section of the User guide. The page itself stays reachable, it just stops taking up a menu slot you would never use again.
Requirements & tier
Administrator access (manage_options). Available on every tier, Free included. Step 2 matters only if you bring your own API key: on Cloud you have AI access without one. The license is optional and is a single line on the last step, not a step of its own.
How to use
- Step 1 — Working mode. If no other SEO plugin is active, AISA is standalone by force and you simply continue. If Yoast, Rank Math, SEOPress or All in One SEO is detected, you choose: Integration, which writes into their fields, or AISA standalone, where AISA emits the tags itself.
- Step 2 — AI provider API key. Pick the provider and paste the key; it saves without leaving the wizard. If you prefer the full settings page, go there from the link: after saving, you are brought back to the next step automatically.
- Step 3 — Your business. Two required fields, business sector and business description, pre-filled from your site title. Read them properly: this is the raw material for everything the AI will write later.
- Step 4 — Brand Context written by the AI. With the key and the description in hand, Generate with AI writes the rest of the Brand Context — who you talk to, tone of voice, what sets you apart — in one call and a few seconds, and shows you every field it produced. This is the step that stops the generated SEO from sounding like everyone else's. Reviewing it is essential: an AI can get a brand name or a sector wrong, and every field stays editable. The license row is here too, for whoever has a key.
- Close with the final button. It marks the wizard as done, rebuilds any stale Yoast indexables — useful after an import, a migration or a WPML switch — and opens the full Brand Context settings, so the first thing in front of you is the thing that makes the rest worth running.
Questions people ask
- Can I skip a step? Yes. An incomplete step offers “Skip this step”, and there is a “Skip the wizard” link throughout. Nothing is lost: the same settings are all in Settings.
- Why has the wizard disappeared from the menu? Because it is finished. It is a once-in-a-lifetime page, so it stops occupying the menu; the link at the bottom of the Dashboard reopens it whenever you want.
- Why only two fields at step 3? Sector and description are enough for the AI to write the rest at step 4. Target, tone of voice, USP and the others can be refined afterwards, from Settings.
- What does the AI generation at step 4 cost? One call with your own key — a fraction of a cent — or one credit on Cloud. You can also fill the fields by hand instead.
- What if I save a key on the full settings page instead? If you got there from the wizard, saving takes you straight back to the next step.
- I am an existing user — why does it not run by itself? It only auto-runs on a fresh, unconfigured install: a mode, a key or a Brand Context already present is enough for AISA to leave you alone. Open it from the Dashboard link if you want it.
Troubleshooting
The wizard did not redirect on activation → the install was detected as already configured; open it from the Dashboard link.
“Fill in sector and description” at step 3 → both required fields must be non-empty before you can continue.
Step 2 will not accept the key → check that the provider matches the key and that nothing was truncated when pasting.
Step 4 says to go back → without the business description the AI has nothing to work from: fill step 3 first.
SEO set during the wizard is not visible on the page with Yoast → close the wizard with the final button, which rebuilds the Yoast indexables.
