Generate the meta description and variants

What it is

AISA generates the meta description with AI and can produce description variants — alternative phrasings of the same summary. The generated description puts the focus keyphrase in the first sentence, stays within the recommended length (about 155 characters), and can include dynamic variables via pills (for example the excerpt or the site name). The description field is a multi-line editable field with pills as chips; the live Google preview and the length meter update as you edit.

Where to find it

In the Standalone SEO block the Meta description field has variable pills underneath plus ✨ Variants and ↻ Regenerate buttons. With Extended SEO active there's also a per-field language selector and an ➕ Add to rotations button. In the floating panel the description is produced by Generate SEO and written into your SEO plugin (live for Yoast/SEOPress, after reload for Rank Math/AIOSEO).

Requirements & tier

  • An AI provider (Cloud credits or your own key).
  • The post type enabled in Settings → Post Type.
  • Brand Context business description (AI generation is blocked without it).
  • Adding variants to rotation requires Extended SEO.

How to use

  1. Set the focus keyphrase first so the description can lead with it.
  2. Press ↻ Regenerate for a fresh meta description, or generate all fields from the floating panel.
  3. Press ✨ Variants to get alternatives and click one to use it.
  4. Insert variable pills where you want dynamic values (e.g. %%excerpt%%, %%sitename%%).
  5. Keep the meter green (~155 chars) and check the live preview snippet.
  6. With Extended SEO, optionally choose a variant language and press ➕ Add to rotations.
  7. Apply; Yoast/SEOPress update live, Rank Math/AIOSEO save and reload.

Questions people ask

  • Where does the keyphrase go? In the first sentence of the meta description — the form SEO plugins check for.
  • How long should it be? Around 155 characters; the meter shows when you're in range.
  • Variants vs rotation? Variants are alternatives to pick now; rotation (Extended SEO) serves stored variants over time, kept in sync with the title in multilingual mode.
  • Can I use the page excerpt automatically? Yes — insert the %%excerpt%% pill; the preview renders the real excerpt.
  • Will title and description stay on the same language? In multilingual rotation AISA syncs title and description in pairs so they never mix languages.

Troubleshooting

  • Description too long/short. Regenerate or edit toward ~155 characters.
  • Generation blocked. Fill the Brand Context business description.
  • Variant button absent. Add to rotations needs Extended SEO enabled.
  • Not visible in AIOSEO. AIOSEO stores values in a custom table; save and reload to see them.
