Generate the focus keyphrase
What it is
The focus keyphrase is the short search phrase a page should rank for. AISA can generate it for you with one click, and it deliberately keeps it short (2–4 words) — the exact form SEO plugins like Yoast and Rank Math expect for their on-page checks. The generated keyphrase is then used as the backbone of the other fields: it is placed near the start of the SEO title, in the first sentence of the meta description, and in the slug, so the page passes the keyphrase checks automatically.
Where to find it
In the Standalone SEO block the Focus keyphrase field has two AI buttons: ✨ Auto (generate one keyphrase) and ✨ Variants (suggest several to choose from). In the floating panel, the keyphrase is produced together with title, meta and slug by Generate SEO, and it is the same keyphrase written into your SEO plugin (for Rank Math the keyphrase is written via the adapter and appears after reload).
Requirements & tier
- An AI provider (Cloud credits or your own API key).
- The post type enabled in Settings → Post Type.
- Brand Context with a business description — AI generation is blocked without it, since that is what makes the output tailored.
How to use
- Open the post/page and locate the Focus keyphrase field.
- Press ✨ Auto to generate a single short keyphrase, or ✨ Variants to get a list and pick one.
- Refine if needed — keep it to 2–4 words for the plugin checks.
- Generate or regenerate the title and meta so they include the exact keyphrase.
- Apply the fields; with Rank Math/AIOSEO press Save and reload to see the keyphrase populated.
Questions people ask
- Why is the keyphrase kept so short? SEO plugins check for an exact, short focus keyphrase in title, description and URL; a 2–4 word phrase passes those checks cleanly.
- Can I generate several options? Yes — use the Variants button to get a set and choose the best fit.
- Will the title and meta match the keyphrase exactly? Yes — AISA places the same wording (verbatim) in title, meta and slug, which is exactly what the SEO plugins reward.
- In Rank Math the field looks empty after applying. Rank Math's keyword field is a Tagify widget; AISA writes the value via its adapter and it shows after reload.
- Does it work for categories/tags? The panel reads the term name and description as context on the term screen (Yoast).
Troubleshooting
- Generation blocked. Fill the Brand Context business description (Settings → Brand Context & Style); without it AI generation is disabled.
- Keyphrase too long. Regenerate or trim to 2–4 words.
- Plugin still flags "keyphrase not found." Make sure you also regenerated the title/meta with the new keyphrase and applied them; the keyphrase must appear verbatim.
- No provider. Configure a key under Settings → API Keys or switch to Cloud.
