Clarity: the readability panel (Gulpease and Flesch)

What it is

Clarity is the readability panel of AISA, new in 2.0.2. While you write, it gives the text an overall score from 0 to 100 with a traffic light, and runs nine checks that show what makes the text hard to read. The analysis runs in your browser: the text is not sent to any AI provider and it costs nothing.

The readability index follows the language of the text: Gulpease for Italian, the index built for Italian, and Flesch for English. Other languages are not scored yet: the panel says so instead of giving a misleading number.

Where to find it

  • Block editor (Gutenberg) and Classic editor: the Clarity box in the side column of the editor.
  • Elementor: the Clarity tab in the Elementor panel.
  • Content lists: the sortable Readability column next to the SEO score, for posts, pages and products.
  • Audience profile for the whole site: AISA → Settings → Analysis.

Requirements & tier

The panel, the nine checks, the audience profiles and the Readability column are in the free plugin. Split long sentences is Premium and uses your AI provider (or Cloud credits). The panel needs at least 60 words to give a score.

The nine checks

CheckWhat it looks at
Readability indexGulpease (Italian) or Flesch (English). It weighs 30% of the overall score.
Long sentencesThe share of sentences over 20 words.
Long paragraphsParagraphs over 150 words.
SubheadingsLong stretches of text without a subheading.
Passive voiceThe share of sentences in the passive voice.
Transition wordsThe share of sentences with a word like "however" or "for this reason".
Repeated sentence openingsSeveral sentences in a row starting with the same word.
Text lengthVery short texts, which rarely answer a question in full.
Sentence varietyWhether sentence length varies: sentences all the same length tire the reader.

Each check shows a status (good, improve, fix) and a short explanation. Show details lists what the check found, for example the repeated openings.

Audience profiles

A council website and a law firm do not write for the same readers. The profile sets the pass marks of three checks: the readability index, long sentences and passive voice.

ProfileReadability index at leastLong sentences at mostPassive voice at most
Public administration & services7015%5%
E-commerce (product pages)6520%10%
General audience (default)6025%10%
B2B / professional5030%15%
Specialist (medical, legal, technical)4040%20%

Set one profile for the whole site in Settings → Analysis, and change it for a single post from the select in the Clarity panel. The readability check of the page audit (Auto SEO Fix, SEO Doctor, and the MCP audit) uses the same pass mark, so the panel and the audit never disagree on the same page.

How to use

  1. Open a post, page or product and write as usual. The score updates as you type.
  2. Check the profile at the top of the panel: it should match the people who read this page.
  3. Start from the checks marked fix, then those marked improve. Split long sentences at a conjunction or a relative pronoun, add a subheading every few paragraphs, turn passive sentences into active ones.
  4. Save. The score is stored with the post and appears in the Readability column.
  5. In the content list, sort the Readability column to find the hardest texts on the site.

Split long sentences (Premium)

The Split long sentences button asks the AI to break up the sentences that run too long. AISA splits without rewriting: it keeps your words and their order, adds almost nothing new, and checks every proposal before showing it. You see each sentence before and after, pick the ones you want, and only those are applied. A sentence that cannot be split cleanly is left as it is, with the reason; a sentence that is really a list is marked to be turned into a bulleted list by hand. A revision is saved before the text changes.

Questions people ask

  • Why Gulpease and not Flesch for Italian? Flesch was built for English and counts syllables. Gulpease was developed in Italy for Italian texts: it counts letters, so it is computed without ambiguity, and its thresholds are tied to the reader's schooling.
  • Is my text sent anywhere? No. The analysis runs in your browser. Only Split long sentences sends the selected sentences to your AI provider, when you click it.
  • Does it work alongside Yoast or Rank Math? Yes. Clarity is independent of the SEO plugin you use.
  • Why is the Readability column empty for some posts? The score is computed in the editor and saved when you save the post. Open and save the post once; texts under 60 words are not scored.
  • Which languages are supported? Italian and English in 2.0.2.

Troubleshooting

"Sentences not recognised": end each sentence with a full stop; text without punctuation cannot be split into sentences. "Word lists not loaded": passive voice and transition words are not measured; reload the editor. "Not available for this language yet": the text is in a language other than Italian or English.
