The setup wizard
What it is
The setup wizard (“Configuration wizard”) is a guided, multi-step onboarding flow that runs automatically the first time you activate AISA. It walks you through the essentials so the plugin can generate good content: how it should work (integration vs standalone), your AI provider API key, your Brand Context, the feature overview, and an optional Premium license. A progress bar and a step list show what is done and what remains; each completed step gets a checkmark.
Where to find it
It launches automatically on first activation. Anytime after, go to AI SEO & GEO → Configuration wizard.
Requirements & tier
Admin access (manage_options). Available on all tiers including Free. Step 2 (API key) is needed only if you use your own keys (BYO-key); Cloud users get AI access without a key. Step 5 (license) is optional.
How to use
- Step 1 — Working mode: if no other SEO plugin is active, AISA is standalone (forced, you just continue). If Yoast / Rank Math / AIOSEO / SEOPress is detected, choose Integration (writes into their fields) or AISA standalone.
- Step 2 — AI provider API key: pick a provider (ChatGPT/OpenAI, Claude/Anthropic, Gemini/Google, DeepSeek) and paste the key; it saves without leaving the wizard. Cloud users can skip this.
- Step 3 — Brand Context: fill the two required fields, business sector and business description (pre-filled from your site title). Review them carefully — this is what makes the SEO match your brand.
- Step 4 — Features: an overview of modules and what Premium adds; you can jump to the Dashboard to toggle them.
- Step 5 — Premium license (optional): paste a license key (format
AISA1.xxxx.xxxx) or skip and add it later. - Finish with “Optimize the site now”, which takes you straight to 1-Click SEO (not a silent dashboard).
Questions people ask
- Can I skip a step? Yes. Incomplete steps show “Skip this step”; you can always return later from the menu.
- What if I save a key on the full settings page instead? If you reached settings from the wizard, saving returns you automatically to the next step.
- Why are only two Brand Context fields required? Sector and business description are enough to start; target, tone of voice, USP and the rest are added later from Settings.
- Does “Finish” do anything besides closing the wizard? Yes — on finish it rebuilds stale Yoast indexables (relevant after imports/migrations/WPML) so your SEO is visible on the page right away, then opens 1-Click SEO.
- I am an existing user — why don't I see the wizard? It only auto-runs on fresh, unconfigured installs. Open it manually from AI SEO & GEO → Configuration wizard.
Troubleshooting
Wizard didn't redirect on activation → the install was detected as already configured (mode, a key, or Brand Context present); open it from the menu.
“Fill in sector and description” error at step 3 → both required fields must be non-empty before continuing.
Step 2 won't accept the key → confirm the provider matches the key and that it isn't truncated when pasted.
SEO set in the wizard not visible on the page (Yoast) → finish the wizard with the Finish button, which rebuilds Yoast indexables.
